keeping long island beautiful and eco-friendly

Help us in our mission to protect the environment while improving your community.

    Are you recycling correctly?

Help protect, improve and beautify our community

For years, Winters Bros. has been keeping Long Island beautiful and eco-friendly with our residential and commercial recycling programs. But we need your help. Improperly disposed materials have prevented our recycling program from operating at full efficiency. In some areas, up to half of the recyclables we’ve collected have been deemed unusable due to contamination. This substantially increases costs, as we need to find alternative solutions for these improperly disposed items.

Please check with your local municipality for the recycling program rules and list of acceptable recyclable items.

    Take a pass on glass

Glass recycling has come under increased pressure recently, and many municipal programs are no longer collecting curbside glass since it’s often heavily contaminated.

Moving forward, please bring NY-refundable glass materials to the bottle return section of a local grocery store or bring the items to a nearby drop-off center. If there are no drop-off centers available, please dispose of glass in your trash.

    Proper Disposal of Lithium Batteries

With so many powered products found throughout today’s homes, it is important for consumers to understand how to properly dispose of lithium batteries to avoid potentially deadly fires. Right now, there is no universally recognized method for the disposal of lithium batteries, and protocols also vary from state to state. Contact your county or town for guidance, or talk to the environmental experts at Winters Bros.
