The Winters Family started a small, local trash removal business on Long Island in the 1950’s and shortly thereafter expanded the business with an operation in Florida. In the late 1980’s, the second generation of the Winters Family, 5 brothers, assumed the business. While continuing operations on Long Island, the brothers acquired a small waste removal company in Burlington, VT, which in just three short years they turned into one of the state’s largest companies. In the mid 1990’s all of the brothers returned to the Long Island operation and created “Winters Bros.” With an ambitious strategy of growth through acquisition and strong sales efforts, Winters Bros. evolved into the leading waste removal and recycling firm on Long Island, with a reputation for uncompromised integrity and outstanding service. Continuing the journey, in September 2007, Winters Bros. Waste Systems, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of IESI, Corporation, one of the largest waste management companies in North America serving the needs of commercial, industrial and residential customers in over 50 markets.
